Perhaps the oldest continuously functioning bar in Barcelona, Casa Almirall has propped up an army of boozers over its long history, serving the same potent, absinthe-laced concoctions available today. Of course, all the city’s classic ex-residents have whet themselves at this establishment, searching for an answer at the bottom of their sugary little cup and embracing the warm atmosphere of a place where time has stood still.

Auspiciously, the bar’s original mordernista style remains, with classic wooden curves giving the place a striking sense of individuality and a homely quality. The large art nouveau mirror behind the bar opens up the dimly lit space and looks down over the dainty seating area, regularly frequented by a strong mix of Raval’s weird and wonderful.
