On entry, the Gran Bodega’s past life as a wine wholesaler is immediately apparent as you are greeted by rows of humongous barrels. The effect of these colossal containers on your average drinker is a Lewis Carrol-eqsue warping of perspective.  However, they are by no means the most curious objects down this particular rabbit hole. The bar is stuffed full of sculptures by prominent local artist Steven Forster, with all manner of strange creatures gazing down on you; from tigers and spiders to the sinister alien-headed house band.

Fear not though, because this bar has charm and cosiness in abundance.  From the soft lighting to the cheery laid-back staff, everything is pitched perfectly for a relaxing drink with friends. The Bodega specialises in fine wines but all tastes are catered for in this vibrant venue.  Check the listing for a regularly updated programme of live music and theatre.
