Staged in a great brick and iron clad former trading centre, Mercat de Poble Nou is a testament to the historical importance of Poble Nou as an independent trade hub.  Like many other markets across the city it was previously part of its own municipality but now lies under the watchful jurisdiction of Barcelona.  Importantly, it remains in its key location, no more than a block away from the lively Rambla de Poble Nou.

The usual selection of fresh fruit and veg can be found in the spacious market packed in with the full range of meat specialists, distributing everything from poultry to offal.  Unusually, for a local food market of its size, clothes stalls can also be found in between the fresh, dried and salted foods.
