The crowning glory of a regeneration project which has reached out to local neighbourhood markets across Barcelona.  The emblematic Mercat de Santa Catarina heralds a new age for the city’s marketplaces.  Its clean, hygienic stalls are neatly spaced out and sell everything from fresh vegetables to whole pigs heads.  After the weekly shop is done, there are a handful of cafe-bars to prop yourself up on with your bag of horse meat and relax with a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.
