On the wonderfully alluring Plaça de George Orwell (or Plaça Trippi depending on who you get your directions from) sits a fine little establishment serving cheap food and drinks in the heart of El Gotico. With a wild mix of residents, wanderers, drunks and the odd lost tourist, Oviso has a buzzing atmosphere and a unique appeal.

Blessed with a kind of bohemian elegance in its decaying interior, the bar comes across as being somewhere between a classic Cuban cocktail lounge and a Czech brothel. Spirits jostle for position on the disordered back-bar, with shelves stacked high on the individually painted walls, while miss-matched wooden furniture provides the seating down the narrow bar. And if it’s all too much for you inside, then it’s time to take a breather on one of the most vibrant little squares in town.
